What's New:
15th October, 2000 - Releases!
- Wild About You 1976-1978 Comelete Studio Recordings has been issued by Raven Records! It's 47 tracks over two discs and includes everything the band recorded in the studio (obviously), including the original take of "Untitled" for the first album, "L-I-E-S", a demo for "Memories are made of this" and two previously unreleased tracks, "Champagne Misery" and "Looking for the sun". The latter sounds, fairly disturbingly, like the Byrds.
The liner notes are by Clinton Walker (largely taken from his book, Stranded) and Ian McFarlane, who documents the recording history of the band. It has some exclusive photos, and the back tray inlay is the infamous Sounds article in full.
The sound is better than the EMI versions, but don't expect the world to rattle.
30th July, 2000 - Reissue updates
- As I reported the other day (below), Raven are reissuing the first three Saints albums. I got word from Ed about the reissues and him not being taken up on the remastering: "They basically thought it would be too expensive to do it the way I suggested. This would have included using the original tapes where possible and doing a really thorough job of sound restoration." He feels (not surprisingly) that the current CD issues from EMI are lacking clarity and dynamics. Hopefully whatever Raven do will improve the quality.
24th July, 2000 - Reissues!
- Raven Records will be reissuing the first three Saints albums sometime this year. Ed Kupper offered to supervise the remastering of them, but it appears this is not happening, for whatever reason. Most importantly, this means the long-deleted "Prehistoric Sounds" will make a welcome return to the shelves. Thanks, once again, to Justin at The Official Ed Kuepper Site.
11th July, 2000 - Updates, updates, updates.
- The biography of the band has been extensively updated, including much new information from Ed Kuepper.
- The discography, especially the Tribute section, has been updated, thanks largely to Justin, once again.
30th June, 2000 - Coming soon!
- Interviewed Ed for a couple of hours this week, will add his story to the bio as soon as possible. 2 hours is a lot of tape to edit. Check back very soon!
20th June, 2000 - General updates.
- Mostly quiet on the Western Front. Edmund has a new album out called "Smile...Pacific" and it's very good. I should have an interview with him for this page sometime, perhaps when he finishes touring. Check out the Hot page for details on the tour. Also, this page should be able to be found using some of the more popular search engines. Maybe.
12th May, 2000 - Album pics.
5th May, 2000 - Reunion rumours.
- It was rumoured that a Saints reunion concert was being organised by Brisbane's 4ZzZ for their 25th Anniversary, but Bailey told me he is "not even vaguely interested" in a Sex Pistols-style reunion, but that he and Kuepper are on speaking terms again. He said if Eddie was interested in re-joining the band, the door would be open. . .
4th May, 2000 - Tribute info.
20th April, 2000 - The whole site! Welcome!
Here it is! The only page in the web that is focused solely on the early exploits of the Saints, Brisbane's (and probably Australia's) finest ever band. Only the Bailey/Hay/Kuepper years are covered here (as heralded by the headline above, '73-'78). The bio, discography, lyrics and line-ups section are the best on the web, if not anywhere. This site is a result of a lot of research and frustration, but it was well worth it. Now go on, click on stuff and learn!
